Carl Wheeler

Currently the Rage Boy's Director and Boys 18s coach. This will be his third season with Rage. In his time at the club, he has coached at the 14s, 15s, and 16s age divisions. He coached at Cesar Chavez High School as the JV girls head coach and Varsity boys assistant coach for two seasons, where the boys won their first league title in program history. Currently, he is a varsity assistant coach at St. Mary’s High School in the girls program. 

Wheeler has played volleyball for over a decade, and currently trains athletes in the sand and indoor. He attended the University of the Pacific in 2013-2017 to study English and Secondary Education. Wheeler was part of a historic period for the men’s volleyball program, which included combining the former varsity DI athletes with the club team when the varsity men’s program was discontinued. 

He was a four-year starter for Pacific's club team as a right-side hitter. During his time at Pacific, the team made three consecutive Northern California Collegiate Volleyball League (NCCVL) playoff appearances, claimed an unbeaten home court record over the 2015-2017 seasons, which included a 27-11 conference record and a 20-4 record in NCCVL - North play during his four years. The program won the NCCVL DII conference title in 2016 with a program-best overall record of 22-11, a second straight conference finals appearance in 2017 in the NCCVL DI championship and won the 2017 National Collegiate Volleyball Federation (NCVF) DII Silver National Championship. In 2016, this historic team received its’ first NCVF national ranking, and in 2017 they climbed to a program-best #3 NCVF DII national ranking. Wheeler was named to the NCCVL All-Conference 2nd team in 2016 but was unable to finish the 2017 campaign due to a season-ending injury.

Wheeler returned to coach the Pacific men's club team in 2019 and recorded a 15-16 overall record, they climbed to #16 in the NCVF DII national rankings, and he led them to a program-best finish in the DII quarterfinals at the NCVF national championships.

Currently, Wheeler is the Club Recruiting Coordinator and Boys Director at Rage Volleyball Club in Ripon, Calif. He has been coaching boys and girls teams at Rage, and high school since 2018. He is a girls’ Varsity Assistant Coach at St. Mary’s High School in Stockton, Calif., where he also was a beach volleyball assistant coach.

In 2021, his team finished 5th at Boys Junior National Championships in the 18-Club division. He will be attending BJNC for a second consecutive season with his 18’s team, which double qualified in the 2022 season.
